1) I don't understand, does this kit include beer?
No, this kit does not include any beer or alcohol. This is very similar to a wine tasting kit which is designed to help you gain an appreciation for the flavors and nuances of a wine. This is a beer appreciation kit which includes different types of hops to help you understand how the flavor of beer is constructed.
2) Is this kit for the beer beginner or the beer pro?
Both. This kit is for everyone from the beer novice to the self-admitted beer snob and the avid home brewer. Whether you know the difference between a Pilsner or a Bock, or if you can distinguish between Cascade and Hallertauer hops, this kit will help you to better appreciate the world of beer.
3) How are the hops in the kit used?
The hops allow you compare various hop varieties with the kind of hops that are in your beer. Once you get good at it, you will be able to pick out the hops that are in your beer without even using the provided hops.
4) What if I drink really exotic beers, will I be able to find the hops used in those?
The hops provided in this kit were selected to encompass the largest variety of beers and the hops used in them. Most probably you will be able to make good matches in most commercial beers no matter where they are from.
4) Do you ship to other countries besides the United States?
We don't, but Kegworks does. If you want to purchase a kit outside the US go to Kegworks and purchase it there.
5) I am a home brewer, is this really anything I don't know or have on hand already?
You are most likely very familiar with the details of creating a quality brew and have an understanding of why beer tastes the way it does. You probably cannot identify thirteen different hops in a blind challenge. By having all 13 different samples are your finger tips at all times you will be able to actually pick out hop flavors in different beer more effectively than now. Plus you look at beer from the stand point of how its made, but do you have know the following:
- What is the proper serving glassware and temperature?
- How to properly clean glassware to eliminate all off aromas and tastes?
- What is the exact SRM color of you beer?
- What causes one of over 100 off flavors?
- Which hops are used in several hundred different commercial beers?
- How do you figure out which hops are beer X?
- How do you hold a beer death match or one of several different themed beer tastings
- How do you really pour a perfect beer every time?
- How much head should you really have on a beer?
- Does the head on a beer make a difference and why does it?
